Rakhification Trend: Why Celebrities Are Compared To Rakhi Sawant

For years, Rakhi Sawant was trolled for her changing appearance. Social media users compared her old and new pictures, joked about cosmetic procedures and questioned why her face looked so different.

Over time, “Rakhification” became an online term used to mock dramatic changes in a celebrity’s appearance.

Today, however, the conversation has changed. Cosmetic treatments have become more common. Social media users have started using the term for other celebrities too.

Recent online discussions around Gauri Khan and others have brought “Rakhification” back into the spotlight.

But there is an important caveat. A change in appearance does not prove that someone has undergone plastic surgery.

Ageing, weight loss, makeup, lighting, filters and non-surgical cosmetic treatments can all change how a person looks.

Rakhi was once mocked for changing her looks

Rakhi Sawant herself has spoken about undergoing cosmetic procedures and has said that she resorted to surgery to improve her appearance after facing rejection in the entertainment industry.

In recent interviews, she has also spoken openly about cosmetic treatments instead of hiding them.

For a long time, however, her changing looks became a reason for trolling. This is why the word “Rakhification” became popular as a sarcastic social-media term whenever people felt that a celebrity’s appearance had changed dramatically.

Why are so many celebrity faces starting to look similar?

The beauty industry has changed rapidly. Treatments such as fillers, Botox, lip enhancement and other aesthetic procedures have become increasingly visible in the celebrity world.

This has led to an online debate about whether many famous faces are beginning to follow the same beauty template: fuller lips, smooth skin, prominent cheekbones and sharp jawlines.

But there is a major difference between surgery, non-surgical cosmetic treatment and simple speculation. A celebrity’s changing face alone cannot confirm that they have gone under the knife.

Actresses who have openly admitted to cosmetic procedures

Unlike many celebrities who prefer not to discuss the subject, some actresses have been open about their experiences.

Shilpa Shetty has publicly acknowledged getting a nose job. She has spoken about the procedure and defended her decision to alter her nose.

Shruti Haasan has also openly admitted to plastic surgery.

She has spoken about having a broken nose, breathing issues, and later making personal choices regarding her appearance.

Shruti has repeatedly maintained that people should not judge someone for deciding what they want to do with their own body.

Anushka Sharma faced massive trolling over her lips in 2014. She later explained that she had used a temporary lip-enhancing procedure for her role in Bombay Velvet and said she did not want to lie about it.

Actresses who denied plastic surgery rumours

There are also several actresses who have faced constant speculation but have either denied it or explained that their changed appearance had other reasons.

Vaani Kapoor was widely discussed online after fans noticed changes in her appearance. However, she denied surgery rumours and said that weight loss had changed the way her face looked.

Kiara Advani has also dismissed speculation about having cosmetic surgery. She reportedly joked that the viral before-and-after pictures circulating online were so convincing that they almost made her wonder whether she had done something to her face.

More recently, Rubina Dilaik strongly denied undergoing plastic surgery.

She said that her appearance had changed naturally over time and through self-care, rejecting claims that she had gone under the knife.

When cosmetic procedures became a painful experience

The glamour associated with cosmetic procedures often hides the risks involved. Some celebrities have openly spoken about treatments that did not go as planned.

Priyanka Chopra’s case is one of the best-known examples. She underwent surgery to remove a polyp from her nasal cavity because she was facing breathing problems. However, the procedure reportedly went wrong, affecting the bridge of her nose. Priyanka later underwent multiple corrective surgeries and has spoken about how difficult it was to look in the mirror and feel that her face had changed completely.

Koena Mitra has also openly discussed the complications she faced after a nose job. According to her own account, she experienced serious swelling and the recovery became a traumatic experience. Her case is often cited as an example of the risks associated with cosmetic procedures.

Uorfi Javed has also spoken publicly about cosmetic fillers going wrong and the complications she faced with her lips and under-eye area.

The real irony behind ‘Rakhification’

The biggest irony is that Rakhi Sawant was once heavily criticised for changing her looks, while today similar cosmetic trends are openly discussed across the entertainment industry.

Celebrities who undergo procedures are trolled for looking “artificial.” Those who age naturally are criticised for looking old. And those who simply look different because of weight loss, makeup or lighting are immediately accused of surgery.

So, the “Rakhification” joke may sound funny, but it points to a bigger issue: the impossible beauty standards placed on women in showbiz. Perhaps the question should no longer be whether someone looks like Rakhi Sawant. Instead, it is worth asking why so many people expect actresses to look perfect at every age and in every picture.
