Roads Submerged in Prayagraj & Jharkhand Rain Alert

A depression over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to move further inland by Tuesday, bringing heavy rainfall to several parts of eastern and central India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The system is expected to move across the Gangetic plains of West Bengal towards Jharkhand, triggering heavy rain in the region. The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture along the West Bengal coast or into the sea until Tuesday, warning of strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph.

An orange alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Flooding reported in several areas

Heavy rainfall has led to flooding in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. In Satna, the Mandakini River has overflowed, prompting the deployment of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Barricades have also been installed at river ghats as a precautionary measure.

In Prayagraj, several roads are submerged under 4-5 feet of water. Boats are being used on waterlogged roads, while rescue operations are underway to evacuate affected residents.

In Unnao, a section of the Ganga Expressway has reportedly collapsed. Around 10 metres of the road on the Meerut-to-Prayagraj lane has caved in, affecting traffic movement.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in eastern Madhya Pradesh.

A yellow alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Weather forecast for August 20

An orange alert has been issued for eastern Uttar Pradesh.

A yellow alert remains in place for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, eastern Rajasthan, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
