In the cheque bounce case, the Supreme Court has granted Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav interim relief from surrendering and going to jail. However, he received this relief subject to a condition.
On Tuesday, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Suryakant heard the case. The court made it clear that Rajpal Yadav would not have to go to jail for the time being if he deposited ₹5 crore with the court registry by tomorrow.
Rajpal Yadav has challenged in the Supreme Court the Delhi High Court’s July 10, 2026, judgment, which sentenced him to three months in prison and ordered him to repay ₹7.5 crore. The Supreme Court has issued notice to the other party on Rajpal Yadav’s petition and sought its response.
The next hearing in the matter has now been scheduled for 15 September.
The entire matter dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore for one of his films. The dispute had been pending in court for a long time after he failed to repay the outstanding amount and the cheque bounced.
Rajpal had said in a conversation with ANI that he would repay everyone’s money.
High Court had said: Actor’s conduct was suspicious, send him back to jail
On July 10, the Delhi High Court ordered Rajpal Yadav to return around ₹7.5 crore to the complainant in a cheque bounce case. The court also sentenced the actor to three months in prison in case of non-payment. However, immediately after the verdict, the High Court granted him two months to approach a higher court.
While hearing the case, the court raised serious questions about Rajpal Yadav’s conduct. The court said that despite giving repeated assurances, the actor had not paid the outstanding amount.

Amid cheque-bounce cases and debt disputes, actor Rajpal Yadav had claimed that he had personally suffered losses of around ₹200 crore over the past 13 years.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the 55-year-old actor said that he is a responsible person and would repay the money owed to people or deliver it to their homes.
Received lower fees, missed more than 50 overseas tours Rajpal Yadav said that he suffered the greatest financial losses between 2013 and 2016. He said that during this period, he missed at least 50 overseas tours and the fees he received also decreased considerably.

Rajpal said that no one can buy him for ₹5 crore or ₹250 crore. He also said that his financial difficulties do not define his entire career, and even today, 500 people take selfies with him at the airport.

The film, released in 2012, flopped. Following this, the cheque bounce case has been pending in court since 2013.
Rajpal was released on February 17 after spending 12 days in Tihar Jail.
He also surrendered at Tihar Jail in February 2026, after which he spent 12 days in prison. He is currently preparing for the films ‘Haivaan’ with Akshay Kumar and ‘SVC 63’ with Salman Khan.

Rajpal Yadav said in an interview that when he was around 20 years old, his family arranged his marriage. At that time, he was living in the village and had just started working.
Wife died 15 minutes after the birth of their daughter
In an interview, Rajpal Yadav revealed that he was 20 years old when his family pressured him into getting married. His first wife’s name was Karuna. A year later, their daughter Jyoti was born, but his wife passed away just 15 minutes after the delivery.
He says, ‘I was supposed to meet her the next day, but I carried her dead body on my shoulder. It is not easy to endure such pain at the age of 20.’ After this, he became a single father, and Jyoti was cared for by his mother and sister-in-law.
Rajpal revealed in an interview that he met his second wife, Radha, in Canada. At the time, he was shooting for the Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta film Hero: Love Story of a Spy. They met through a common friend, and the two got married on June 10, 2003.
Formed his own political party in 2016
In 2016, Rajpal Yadav launched a new political party called Sarv Sambhav Party (SSP). The party was formed in Vrindavan. He was the party’s general secretary and star campaigner, but did not intend to contest the elections himself.
The party’s motto was, “Politics of dialogue, not controversy.” He took an oath to work honestly, placing his hand on the Gita, Quran, Bible, Guru Granth Sahib, Ramayana, and the Constitution.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the party announced that it would contest around 390-400 of the 403 seats. The party’s headquarters was in Lucknow. His two brothers, Shripal Singh Yadav (Bislpur) and Rajesh Singh Yadav (Tilhar), contested the elections on behalf of the party, but the party did not achieve any significant success.

In an interview, Rajpal Yadav said that he had survived three life-threatening accidents. Once, while bathing in the Ganges, he went into deep water and lost consciousness. Besides this, he narrowly escaped being run over by a bullock cart on one occasion and a situation resembling an attack by wild dogs on another.
