After drenching the western part of Madhya Pradesh, the strong monsoon system will now become active in the eastern part. From Friday, there is an orange alert for heavy rain for 3 days in the districts of Jabalpur, Rewa, and Shahdol divisions. According to the Meteorological Department, these two districts may receive 4 inches or more of rain in 24 hours.
The weather changed in UP on Thursday. It rained in 15 districts, including Gorakhpur and Azamgarh. With rivers in spate, more than 80 villages in 16 districts are affected by floods. Farrukhabad has the most floods, affecting 49 villages.

In Chamoli, Uttarakhand, a landslide occurred on Thursday evening in the 3 km long under-construction tunnel at Pipalkoti, and water started seeping in. 22 labourers working inside were trapped due to debris and water filling up. All of them were safely rescued from the tunnel during the rescue operation.
