West Bengal witnessed its first-ever ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra’ under the new state government on Friday, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari leading a massive rally through his Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
Suvendu Adhikari leads massive rally personally
The nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi several years ago to encourage citizens to display the national flag during Independence Day celebrations. However, the programme had not been officially organised in West Bengal when the previous government was in power.
Following the change in government in 2026, the state launched the initiative on a large scale. The inaugural Tiranga Yatra began from the Survey Building and concluded at Hazra Crossing, drawing a large turnout of residents and supporters carrying the Tricolour.
Thousands participate carrying national tricolour flags
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari personally led the procession, which was also attended by Industries Minister Tapas Chatterjee and several residents. The rally transformed the streets of Bhabanipur into a sea of tricolour flags as part of the Independence Month celebrations.
Tiranga Yatra will be held on August 10
Addressing the gathering at Hazra Crossing, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said,
With today’s march from Survey Building to Hazra, we have officially launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in West Bengal. I am overwhelmed by the massive public participation, and thank everyone for joining us.
He announced that another Tiranga Yatra will be held on August 10, beginning at the Netaji statue and concluding at Gate No. 7 of Birla Planetarium, with an expected participation of 50,000 people.
Campaign aims to strengthen patriotism
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message, “Dil Se Tiranga, Pyaar Se Tiranga, Har Ghar Tiranga,” the Chief Minister said the campaign aims to strengthen patriotism and nationalism. He added that West Bengal now has a “nationalist government” and extended advance Independence Day greetings to the people of the state.
