Bhumi Pednekar Supports Student Amid PM Modi Abuse Controversy

Actress Bhumi Pednekar, who recently made headlines for her remarks on the CJP protest and the abusive language used during it, has now shared another video on social media. She said she watched an interview of a young girl who was part of the protest and claimed that the girl has been receiving continuous threats ever since the video went viral.

Bhumi appealed to people to stop online harassment, take mental health seriously, and express their opinions without spreading hate. The controversy began after the minor student allegedly used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protest, following which she has reportedly been receiving rape and death threats.

Student receiving threats after viral interview

In her video, Bhumi Pednekar said that a young student who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest has been facing online abuse after her interview went viral. According to Bhumi, the student is receiving rape and death threats, along with vulgar messages. She said such harassment can seriously affect a person’s mental health and urged people to show sensitivity, respect, and empathy instead of targeting someone’s life.

‘Only together can we bring positive change’

Ending her video, Bhumi appealed to people to reject hatred and express their opinions in a respectful manner. She said, “All of us want the same thing—that our country progresses and prospers. If we come together and put forward our views in the right way, only then will we be able to see real positive change.” Following her remarks, the debate over freedom of expression, the limits of protest, and online behaviour has once again gained momentum on social media.

Faced backlash over her earlier remarks

Earlier, Bhumi Pednekar had condemned the abusive language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the CJP protest over the NEET paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In a video, she said that while everyone has the right to protest, using such language against the person holding the country’s highest office is against India’s culture and values. Following her statement, she faced trolling from a section of social media users.

Criticised for staying silent on the protest

After Bhumi Pednekar’s earlier video, several social media users accused her of presenting a one-sided view. Critics claimed that she did not speak about the alleged police action, the reported lathi-charge on students, or the demands raised during the Parliament March held on July 20. Instead, they alleged that she focused only on the abusive slogans used during the protest.
