Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has cancelled his scheduled shows in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area following protests by Hindutva organisations. According to the police, Kamra visited the Whitefield Police Station on Sunday and informed officials that he would not be going ahead with the performances.
A senior police officer said Kamra decided to cancel the Whitefield shows after protests were staged by Hindutva activists against the event.
Shows shifted to Koramangala
Later, Kunal Kamra announced on social media platform X that the shows scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have now been shifted to a different venue in Koramangala.
Refunds for Whitefield tickets
Kunal Kamra also said that people who had booked tickets for the Whitefield shows would receive refunds through BookMyShow. He requested fans to book tickets for the new venue in Koramangala, adding that the number of seats there is limited.
Earlier warned a social media troll
Before cancelling the shows, Kunal Kamra had responded to a social media user who criticised his performances. During the online exchange, he also said that he would visit the Whitefield Police Station on August 2, a statement he later followed through before announcing the cancellation of the Whitefield shows.
Accused of insulting Hindu deities
This development occurred when the Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti recently submitted a petition to the Bengaluru police. It demanded the cancellation of Kamra’s stand-up show, scheduled to take place on August 3 at URU (URU) Whitefield. The committee argued that Kamra’s show posed a threat to law and order and religious harmony. They alleged that Kamra had insulted Hindu deities.
Accusations of hurting religious sentiments were also made due to CJP Protest’s statement
On July 15, Kunal Kamra attended the protest of the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar. During this, he made a statement on stage about Lord Ram and Mother Sita. After the statement came to light, a complaint was filed against Kunal Kamra on charges of hurting religious sentiments.
Court seeks police report over Ram-Sita remarks
Another controversy involving Kunal Kamra is currently before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Advocate Vibhu Virbhadra Saini alleged in a petition that during a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 15, 2026, Kamra made objectionable remarks about Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, hurting religious sentiments.
The petition, filed on July 24, has prompted the High Court to seek a report from the Chandigarh Police. The court asked the police to examine whether there is any prima facie basis for the allegations and whether an FIR should be registered. The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on August 18.

2025 – ‘Traitor’ remark on Eknath Shinde: During his stand-up show Naya Bharat, Kamra allegedly referred to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “traitor.” After the video went viral, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) workers vandalised The Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai, and an FIR was registered against him.
2025 – Joke on Salman Khan: Kamra joked about Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case and 2002 hit-and-run case during a performance. The remarks sparked controversy, but Kamra refused to apologise.
2022 – Gurugram show cancelled: His stand-up show in Gurugram was cancelled following protests by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal. Kamra later challenged the VHP to publicly condemn Nathuram Godse, which further fuelled the controversy.
2022 – Edited video of a child: Kamra shared an edited video of a child singing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Germany. After the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sought its removal, he deleted the video, saying his satire was aimed at the government’s economic policies, not the child.
2020 – ‘Brahmin-Baniya’ remark: Kamra made a “Brahmin-Baniya” remark about the Supreme Court during a stand-up show. The comment led to contempt of court petitions against him.
2020 – Mid-air confrontation with Arnab Goswami: Kamra recorded himself confronting journalist Arnab Goswami on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Lucknow and shared the video online. IndiGo initially banned him for six months, later reducing it to three months. Air India, SpiceJet, and GoAir also temporarily barred him from flying.
