
The Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Samajwadi Party (SP) boycotted the tea party hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday. The get-together was held following the adjournment of the House sine die at the end of the Monsoon Session.
A senior Congress leader informed that leaders from Congress, SP, TMC, and several other parties of the INDIA bloc did not attend the event. However, DMK leader Kanimozhi participated in the Lok Sabha Speaker’s traditional tea party.
Event in Lok Sabha Speaker’s chamber
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other senior leaders and ministers were present at the tea party held in the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chamber.
This traditional event by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was organised after the proceedings of both Houses were adjourned sine die.
Kharge & Sonia attend Rajya Sabha Chairman’s tea party
Opposition leaders in the Rajya Sabha participated in a tea party organised by Chairman CP Radhakrishnan. Among them were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Sonia Gandhi.
The Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman host tea parties in their respective chambers after the proceedings of both houses are adjourned sine die.
