Retired schoolteacher Anjana Sanyal from Uttarpara and Basirhat couple Anukul Poddar and Reba Ray Poddar have returned safely to West Bengal after narrowly escaping devastating floods in Nepal.
Anjana Sanyal recounts narrow escape
Sanyal, 69, was travelling with a 17-member group towards Kailash Mansarovar when their bus was forced to turn back after the driver received a warning about a flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River. The driver noticed a huge surge of water approaching from the mountains and immediately turned the bus towards Kathmandu, preventing the group from getting trapped on the route.

Sanyal said the group had initially seen what looked like a cloud of smoke before realising that a massive volume of water was rushing down from the mountains.
Although she could not reach Kailash Mansarovar this time, Sanyal said she still wants to visit Kailash in the future, even if she has to travel by helicopter.
Basirhat couple also escapes danger
Meanwhile, Anukul Poddar and his wife, Reba Ray Poddar, also returned home safely after escaping the Nepal disaster with their family.
According to Anukul, their driver noticed something resembling smoke descending from the mountain and, suspecting danger, immediately moved the vehicle to higher ground. The driver’s decision reportedly saved Anukul’s family and other passengers travelling with them. Around 22 people were in the vehicle when it was moved to safety.
The couple returned to Basirhat under police security, bringing an end to days of anxiety among their families and local residents awaiting their safe return.
