The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 15.607 kg of gold worth nearly ₹25 crore from a woman in Nadia’s Banpur border area, officials said. The seizure was made by personnel of the BSF’s 32nd Battalion following a tip-off about suspected smuggling activity along the India-Bangladesh border.
Gold haul linked to border smuggling
According to BSF sources, personnel maintained surveillance in the area for a considerable period before noticing a woman moving suspiciously. She was detained and searched, following which 15.607 kg of gold was recovered from her possession.
The BSF estimated the market value of the seized gold at ₹24.95 crore, making it one of the major gold seizures reported along the border.

The woman is being questioned by BSF officers to determine how the gold reached the border and who was supposed to receive it.
Investigators are also trying to identify other people who may have been involved in the operation, besides tracing the source and intended destination of the gold. The scale of the seizure has prompted authorities to examine whether it is linked to a larger smuggling network operating along the India-Bangladesh border or is an isolated attempt.
Woman to face further police investigation
The BSF has meanwhile intensified surveillance along the border to prevent further smuggling attempts. The detained woman will subsequently be handed over to Krishnaganj Police for further investigation and legal action.
