An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was shot dead in Ferozepur. Masked attackers who arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at three people sitting in a car and two people riding motorcycles. The AAP leader was killed in the firing, while one of his associates was injured.
The AAP leader was identified as 45-year-old Gurpreet Singh, while the injured person was identified as Harpreet Singh. Harpreet Singh was admitted to a hospital for treatment, but was later referred to another hospital due to his critical condition. The incident took place in Mamdot.
Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh, who reached the spot, said the preliminary investigation suggests that the dispute was linked to election rivalry. The investigation is currently underway. The full picture will become clear once the investigation is completed. The accused have been identified, but he said he could not disclose their identities at this stage.
According to a doctor at the civil hospital, two injured people reached the hospital at around 8 pm on Saturday night. SSP Bhupinder Singh said the police are investigating the case.
The AAP leader was brought to the hospital after being shot, but the doctor declared him dead.
The injured youth admitted to the hospital. His condition remains critical.
