Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is once again in love and dating a woman, 20 years younger to him. He has opened up about his long-standing relationship with Shubhra Shetty, revealing that the couple has been together for 11 years.
The Gangs of Wasseypur director, 53, spoke candidly about their relationship, their age difference, marriage, and his fears about growing older while speaking with content creator Janice Sequeira.

Anurag and Shubhra have largely kept their relationship away from the public eye. However, their romance has attracted attention over the years, particularly because of their 20-year age difference.
Speaking about his relationship, Anurag said he was happy with Shubhra and wanted to continue being with her.
“I’m very happy to be with her. I want to be with her. So, whatever that takes,” he said.
The filmmaker also opened up about one of his biggest concerns is getting older while Shubhra remains much younger.

Anurag admitted that he became increasingly aware of their age difference as the years passed.
The filmmaker also spoke about wanting to remain healthy enough to live alongside the people he loves.

‘I don’t want to lose this’: Anurag
He said that he often thinks about what would happen if he were to die before the people closest to him. However, he added that as long as he and Shubhra have what they have now, he is happy.
“But my thing is, as long as we have found what we have found now, I’m happy with anything. I don’t want to lose this,” he said.
When did Anurag make his relationship with Shubhra public?
Anurag and Shubhra reportedly met while she was working at Phantom Films, the production house associated with Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena.
The couple was first spotted together publicly in 2015, which sparked speculation about their relationship. They did not immediately address the rumours and continued to keep their personal lives private.
It was only around 2018 that Anurag acknowledged that he and Shubhra were dating.
Over the years, the couple occasionally shared glimpses of their relationship, although they largely avoided discussing their personal lives publicly.
Their relationship has now lasted around 11 years, according to Anurag’s recent revelation.
Who is Shubhra Shetty?

Shubhra Shetty worked as an assistant director at Phantom Films when she met Anurag. The two reportedly connected over their shared interests, including books, films, and cinema.
Speaking about the time when they first met, Shubhra recalled that Anurag was going through a particularly positive phase in his life.
“It was his pre-Bombay Velvet release and post-film shooting; he was in a very good phase. He was very fit, happy, reading books, and watching films. So, we bonded over all those things,” she said.
Shubhra added that Anurag often joked that she would not have dated him if they had met a few years earlier.
“He used to say that if I had met him a few years ago, I wouldn’t have dated him, but I don’t think that’s true. I caught him one little golden window, when he was at his best,” she said.
Although Anurag was her boss at Phantom Films, Shubhra said she did not report directly to him and that the workplace was supportive of their relationship.
Are Anurag Kashyap and Shubhra Shetty going to marry?
Marriage appears to be something the couple has discussed, but neither has indicated that a wedding is imminent. Anurag has been married twice before and said that being unmarried does not change how he feels about Shubhra.
He said his feelings for her are not dependent on whether they formalise their relationship through marriage.
Shubhra, meanwhile, has a different view of marriage. She has said that she does not believe in the institution of marriage.
Despite their differing views, the couple remain committed to each other and have been together for more than a decade.
Shubhra’s parents also had their own opinion
Shubhra also recalled how her parents reacted when they learned about her relationship with Anurag.
According to her, she did not have to convince her parents or explain why she had chosen to be with him. Instead, they met Anurag themselves and formed their own opinion about him.
Anurag revealed that Shubhra’s parents are only two or three years younger than him. He jokingly referred to them as his “friends”.
Shubhra also shared an amusing description of her mother’s reaction to Anurag.
“My mom calls him a bakra, because she said he is stupid enough to be with you. She thinks he is like a henpecked husband,” she said.
She added that her parents handled the situation well and that she did not have to persuade them to accept the relationship.
“My parents did a very good job. I didn’t convince them. They met him,” Shubhra said.

Before his relationship with Shubhra, Anurag was married twice.
He first married editor Aarti Bajaj. The couple were married for six years before ending their marriage in 2009. They have a daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap.

Anurag later married actor Kalki Koechlin in 2011. Their marriage lasted four years before they separated. The two have continued to remain connected through their daughter-free personal lives, although they have moved on separately.

Anurag is now in a long-term relationship with Shubhra, while Kalki has also moved on with her life.

Despite the attention surrounding their age difference and different views on marriage, Anurag and Shubhra have remained together for more than a decade. Anurag’s latest comments suggest that, for him, the relationship is less about labels and more about holding on to the bond they have built over the years.
