Belagavi Refrigerator Blast | Damone Family Members Die in House Fire

A fire broke out in a house in Belagavi, Karnataka, after a refrigerator exploded on Tuesday morning. Four women from the family died in the incident. It occurred in Chavat Gali at around 2:30 a.m. Two people suffered serious burns and have been admitted to hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Ganga Damone (25), Sharda Damone (45), Priya Damone (28) and Bharti Damone (50).

According to the police, initial information suggests that the fire broke out after the refrigerator exploded. The fire spread rapidly throughout the house, and those inside were unable to get out.

Two people suffer serious burns

Belagavi Police Commissioner Prakash Nikam said Gajanan Damone (65) and his son Roshan Damone (21) were seriously injured in the incident.

Both were taken to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Gajanan suffered burns over around 80% of his body, while Roshan suffered burns over around 40% of his body.

The police said all four women died at the scene from their burns.

Incident occurred within Market police station limits

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Market Police Station. According to initial information, a fire broke out in the house after the refrigerator exploded.

The fire quickly spread throughout the premises, trapping the people inside the house and preventing them from getting out.

Short circuit suspected, investigation underway

Commissioner Prakash Nikam said that, at first glance, the fire appeared to have been caused by a short circuit. However, this has not yet been confirmed.

He said that Roshan Damone, who survived the incident, reported hearing a sound resembling a short circuit. The exact cause of the fire will be established after the FSL team’s investigation.

The FSL team and officials from HESCOM, or Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited, are investigating the scene.

After the post-mortems and completion of the necessary procedures, the bodies of all four deceased people will be handed over to their families.

Police are conducting further investigation into the case.
