Following the uncovering of a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module, the Chandigarh Police Operations Cell produced the three arrested accused in court on Monday afternoon. The police had requested a seven-day remand for the trio from the court. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court remanded all three accused to police custody for five days. The police will now interrogate the accused to ascertain the origin of the explosive material, which location in Chandigarh was intended as a target, and who else remains in contact with foreign-based handlers.
The police had arrested Lovepreet Singh, Jasanpreet Singh alias Jasandeep, and Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh on 23 August. According to the police, approximately 6 kg of gelatin sticks, detonators, a power source, a remote-operated device, a pistol, one magazine, and five live cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused.
With the court granting a five-day police remand, the focus of the investigation will now shift to interrogating the accused. The police will attempt to establish who supplied the recovered explosive material, with whom the accused were in contact, and which site in Chandigarh was planned to be targeted.
Preparations to plant an IED in a crowded place
According to the police, information was received on 22 August that Tarn Taran residents Lovepreet Singh and Jasanpreet Singh were in contact with individuals linked to terror activities based abroad. Both were roaming in the Sector 42/43 area, and there was information that they possessed a large quantity of explosive material.
The police claim that the accused were preparing to trigger a blast by planting an IED in a crowded place in Chandigarh. Following this, FIR No. 143 was registered at the Sector-36 Police Station, and a search for the accused was initiated. Based on human intelligence and technical investigation, the police arrested all three on 23 August.
Ground network of the accused for BKI
According to the police, all three accused were working for BKI’s ground network. They were in contact with handlers sitting abroad. The accused had been assigned responsibilities related to delivering explosive material, gathering necessary supplies, locating sites for the attack, and planting the IED.
During the remand, the police will now interrogate the accused regarding their contacts with their foreign handlers and the entire network. Apart from this, the source of the explosive material and potential targets will also be ascertained.

Mother denies police allegations
Following the court appearance, Lovepreet’s family raised questions regarding the police allegations. Rejecting the allegations made by the police, Lovepreet’s mother stated that she has full faith in her son. She said that injustice has been done to her son and that an investigation into the matter can be conducted anywhere.
According to the family, Lovepreet was 18 years old and had studied up to the eighth standard. He worked as a painter. The family shared that he received money from the houses where he did painting work, and he managed his expenses through this work.
Lovepreet’s mother mentioned that her son had not been answering his phone for the last three days, which had left her quite anxious. Meanwhile, a phone call was received by Jasanpreet’s father.
According to the family, Jasanpreet is the son of Lovepreet’s paternal aunt. He had also dropped out of school and worked as a painter. Jasanpreet has five sisters.
Left Saying He Was Going to the Shrine
Lovepreet’s family shared that he had left home saying he was going to visit a shrine (Mata). Both brothers had left home, but they had not provided much information to the family regarding this.
According to the family, a day before the incident as well, Lovepreet had taken money from a few people. The family asserts that he worked as a painter in those very houses, from where he received money in exchange for his work.
Lovepreet’s father stated that there is no change in the situation, and if the police wish to investigate, the probe can be carried out anywhere. The family has also raised questions over the allegations leveled by the police.
Lovepreet’s mother shared that her son used to remain stressed over the fact that his father also indulged in substance abuse. She added that an investigation into this matter can also be conducted. She further denied that her son consumed drugs. The mother said that she herself is a diabetic patient and has complete faith in her son. She alleged that wrong has been done to her child.
As soon as information regarding the IED was received, the bomb squad team also arrived at the scene.
According to the police, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against Lovepreet in 2025. However, the family has denied that he consumed drugs. Lovepreet’s mother maintains that her son did not take drugs.
According to the family, Lovepreet’s elder sister is married. The family is now demanding an impartial investigation into the entire matter.
