A 78-year-old retired officer travelling in the First AC coach of the Una-Indore Express was bitten on the nose by a rat while he was sleeping on Sunday night. The incident caused panic in the coach. After reaching Indore, his family took him to Kokilaben Hospital, where doctors administered his first anti-rabies injection.
According to the family, a rat had been spotted in the coach shortly after they boarded the train. They informed railway staff and also complained about the unhygienic conditions in the coach. The staff cleaned the coach but did not carry out pest control.

Bitten while sleeping around 10:30 pm
The passenger, HP Karan, is a Class-I retired officer. He boarded the train with his family in Chandigarh on Saturday to travel to Indore. According to his son Vijay, a rat was spotted in the coach shortly after they boarded, and the family reported it to railway staff.
The family said HP Karan was sleeping on his berth at around 10:30 pm when the rat bit him on the nose. The family immediately informed railway staff about the incident.
After the train reached Indore, the family took him directly to Kokilaben Hospital. Doctors provided first aid and administered the first anti-rabies injection. He was then kept under medical observation.
The incident occurred while traveling from Chandigarh to Indore.
Railway: Incident occurred in Agra division
Mukesh Kumar, PRO of Western Railway’s Ratlam division, said the rat-bite incident occurred while the train was passing through the Agra railway division. The passenger was provided first aid after the incident.
The railway official said the prescribed anti-rodent control procedure had been carried out before the train departed from Indore for Una. He said the rat may have entered the coach at some point during the journey if a coach door was left open.
Passenger was also bitten by rat at Indore airport
This is not the first reported case of a passenger being bitten by a rat in Indore. A similar incident had earlier been reported at the terminal premises of Indore Airport. Neeraj, a resident of Bhopal, had reached the airport to board a flight to Bengaluru when a rat bit him inside the terminal.
