The dispute over Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 has taken a fresh turn, with the matter now reaching the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA). Excel Entertainment has reportedly sought around ₹45 crore in damages from the actor, while Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, has presented the actor’s side before the association.
Ranveer’s legal team has also questioned IMPPA’s jurisdiction, arguing that the association does not have the authority to decide the dispute.

On 18 August, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani met IMPPA officials and submitted documents and other material on Ranveer’s behalf. IMPPA President Abhay Sinha confirmed the meeting and said it went well.
The association’s legal team is currently examining the documents and claims submitted by both sides.
Ranveer’s legal team questions IMPPA’s jurisdiction
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh’s legal team has formally responded to IMPPA, reportedly stating that the association has no jurisdiction over the matter.
According to reports, Ranveer’s side has argued that there was no formal contract between the actor and Excel Entertainment, but an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding). His legal team has rejected the alleged ₹45 crore claim and asked IMPPA not to intervene in the dispute.
Ranveer’s lawyers have reportedly warned that if IMPPA passes any resolution or decision against the actor, they may pursue legal action. They have maintained that if the dispute between Excel Entertainment and Ranveer cannot be resolved through mutual discussions, it should be taken to court.
What did IMPPA president Abhay Sinha say?
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Abhay Sinha said the matter had reached IMPPA around a week ago and that the association’s legal team was currently examining it.
Abhay Sinha is the president of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association.
He said documents and claims from both parties were being reviewed. According to Sinha, the matter will be discussed in detail at a press conference next week.
IMPPA has not yet reached any final decision on the dispute.
What is the ₹45 crore dispute?
The controversy began after reports that Ranveer Singh had allegedly withdrawn from Don 3. According to reports, Excel Entertainment, the production company owned by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, sought compensation of around ₹45 crore from the actor over losses allegedly incurred following his exit.
The reported losses were linked to production preparations and other work carried out in connection with the film. The dispute had also reportedly reached other film industry organisations.
FWICE had also issued a non-cooperation directive
In May, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. However, the directive was withdrawn in June following discussions with various industry bodies.
The matter is now before IMPPA, which is examining documents and claims from both sides, while Ranveer’s legal team continues to challenge the association’s jurisdiction. The press conference scheduled for next week could provide further clarity on the dispute.
