Ganga Yamuna Water Level Rise

Yellow alert for rain has been issued in 15 states across the country, including Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, for today. Due to rainfall over the past 3–4 days, water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna have risen in Varanasi and Prayagraj, with 84 ghats in Kashi submerged.

Rainfall in Uttarakhand has caused the Ganga’s water level to rise in Bihar. The river is also rising in Patna, where overflowing water from the Ganga has reached the roads near Mahavir Ghat.

In Khagaria, rising water levels in the Ganga have caused floodwaters to enter Karari panchayat. Children are being forced to walk to school through waist-deep water, carrying their bags on their heads.

According to the weather department, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast on Sunday. As a result, some parts of Odisha may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
