Kangana Ranaut Retracts Statement on Kriti Sanon Rakhi Outfit

Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has appeared to backtrack on her earlier remarks about Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement. Speaking on the Decode Live show, Kangana said that Kriti was free to wear whatever she wanted and that no one was stopping her.

When asked about her previous comments on Kriti’s outfit, Kangana said, “The kind of films we see her in, who is stopping her from wearing anything? Who has stopped her, and who cares?” She added that any woman was free to wear clothes of her choice on Raksha Bandhan.

The controversy started with the ‘Bikini’ comment

Earlier, Kangana Ranaut had targeted Kriti Sanon without naming her in an Instagram Story. She wrote that women today have the freedom to wear all kinds of clothes and questioned why such an outfit was chosen while tying a rakhi to a brother on Raksha Bandhan.

Kangana wrote on her Instagram Story, “It is a great time to be a woman. Our wardrobes are full of different kinds of clothes, and today’s woman is a global woman. From cocktail dresses to lehenga-cholis, jeans to sarees, and bikinis to salwar-kameez, we have so many options to choose from.”

She further questioned, “Then why would you tie a rakhi to your brother in a bikini or undergarments? Where did all your styling options go? Haha, this advertisement seems to have been made awkwardly on purpose.”

Jewellery brand withdraws advertisement

After the controversy escalated on social media, Jeeva Jewellery stated on Instagram and withdrew the advertisement. The company said its intention was to respect Indian culture and festivals.

It explained that the aim of the campaign was also to include pets in the festivities. The brand added that if the advertisement had hurt anyone’s sentiments, it regretted doing so and was removing the campaign from all media platforms out of respect.

The controversy began after Jeeva Jewellery’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kriti Sanon. In the ad, Kriti was seen wearing an Indo-Western bralette-style blouse and tying a rakhi to her pet dog along with her brother.
