Landslide in Rishikesh-Uttarkashi & Rain Alert: UP Schools Closed

Heavy rains have disrupted normal life across parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with rising river levels, waterlogging and road blockages reported in several areas.

In Madhya Pradesh, water levels in rivers around Satna and Chitrakoot are continuing to rise, leading to waterlogging in several areas.

Authorities have declared all schools and colleges in Satna closed today amid the worsening conditions.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for 67 districts, with heavy rainfall warnings for 15 districts, including Mathura and Agra.

Schools will remain closed today in Ballia, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Lakhimpur Kheri and Chitrakoot.

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic regions is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar. The weather system is likely to remain active until September 5.

In Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Nainital, Bageshwar and Dehradun, while a yellow alert is in place for the remaining districts. Rain is expected to continue for the next three days.

Heavy rain has also disrupted road connectivity in the state. The Lakshman Jhula-Neelkanth road in Rishikesh has been blocked by debris, while the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarkashi has been closed.
