A 26-year-old newlywed woman survived a fall from the 10th floor of a building in Mumbai on Wednesday (26 Aug) morning after she became entangled in a tree before hitting the ground. However, a thick branch pierced her thigh, leaving her suspended around 20 feet above the ground.
The incident took place at around 9.30 am at Sunshine Cooperative Housing Society in Tulshetpada. After receiving the alert, a Mumbai Fire Brigade team reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The woman, identified as Pratiksha Hivrale, had got married four months ago. The reason why she jumped from the building window has not yet been established.
She sustained serious injuries to her left leg and was initially taken to hospital before being referred to LTMG Sion Hospital for surgery.
Firefighters cut branch with electric saw, lower woman using ropes
According to the Fire Brigade official, Pratiksha jumped from a window and landed on a nearby tree while falling. A branch measuring around 50-60 mm in thickness reportedly pierced her thigh, leaving her trapped approximately 20 feet above the ground.
Firefighters reached her using an aerial ladder and carefully cut the branch with an electric saw. They then secured her to a stretcher and lowered her to the ground with the help of ropes.
After the rescue, Pratiksha was taken to hospital for treatment and later referred to Sion Hospital. Her condition is reported to be serious.
