
The government on Friday announced the National Teachers’ Awards 2026 for 48 school teachers in recognition of their contribution to school education and literacy.
The list released by the Department of School Education and Literacy includes teachers from various states and Union Territories. Teachers from institutions including the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Sainik Schools, Adarsh Tribal Schools and PM SHRI Schools have also been selected.
Selection from 27 states and 7 UT
The 48 teachers selected this year are from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six central government organisations. The list includes 26 men and 22 women.
Among the selected teachers are J Prakash Rao from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rajesh Kauluri from Andhra Pradesh, Yaku Tame from Arunachal Pradesh, Rajesh Bordoloi from Assam, Suman Goyal from Delhi and Zafar Alam from an Eklavya Model Residential School under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Mahadev Hanmant Shinde from Goa, Nitin Kumar Mahendrakumar Pathak from Gujarat, Anil Kaushik from Haryana, Manjari V Mahajan from Himachal Pradesh, Mohammad Ayaz Raina from Jammu and Kashmir, and Archana Shukla from Madhya Pradesh have also been selected.
The list also includes teachers from Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Ladakh and other regions.
President to present awards on Sep5
President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards to the teachers on September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India.
A short documentary highlighting the work of each award winner will also be screened at the event, showcasing their contributions to education.
Selection held at district, state and national levels
According to the ministry, the 48 teachers were selected through a three-stage process at the district, state and national levels.
The National Teachers’ Awards aim to recognise the outstanding contributions of teachers across the country and honour those who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped improve the quality of school education and enrich the lives of their students.
