
Nihang slapping the Homeguard jawan.
A Nihang assaulted a Chandigarh Home Guard jawan at the Mataur border between Chandigarh and Mohali, with a video of the incident surfacing on social media.
The footage shows the Nihang grabbing the dori (lanyard) on the jawan’s uniform, pulling him towards himself and slapping him. He is also heard abusing the jawan and accusing him of consuming alcohol and disrespecting the Guru Granth Sahib.
The Home Guard jawan is seen repeatedly folding his hands before the Nihang during the confrontation.
Jawan was returning from Mohali
The jawan has been identified as Ravinder, who is posted with Chandigarh Police. He was returning to Chandigarh on his motorcycle after visiting his sister in Mohali.
Police had installed barricades at the Mataur border to prevent protesters associated with the Kaumi Insaaf Morcha from entering Chandigarh. The Nihang allegedly confronted Ravinder shortly after he crossed the border and entered Chandigarh.
Police find no evidence of alcohol consumption
The investigation so far has not found evidence that Ravinder was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Police are now trying to identify and locate the Nihang seen in the video. The footage was reportedly recorded by the Nihang himself and later uploaded on social media.
Police are also examining claims that the accused is associated with the Kaumi Insaaf Morcha.

Know the entire matter in sequence…
- Stopped at Matour Border: On the morning of August 15, Chandigarh Police had set up barricades at Mataur Border for security reasons. A large number of police personnel were deployed here to prevent protesters from Kaumi Insaaf Morcha from entering Chandigarh.
- Was returning to Chandigarh after meeting sister: During this time, Home Guard jawan Ravinder was returning to Chandigarh around 7 AM after meeting his sister who lives in Mohali. Meanwhile, he was stopped at Matour Border. The Nihang present there and people standing with him caught hold of him.
- Pulled by lanyard and slapped: In the video, the Nihang can be seen pulling the Home Guard jawan by his dori (lanyard). After this, he appears to slap the jawan. The Nihang is seen questioning the jawan while accusing him of drinking alcohol.
- Jawan folded hands before Nihang: In the video, the homeguard jawan can be seen trying to save himself. He kept folding his hands and telling the Nihang that he had not consumed alcohol. Despite this, the Nihang continued to assault him.
- Also accused of sacrilege: In the video, the Nihang can be seen accusing the homeguard jawan of disrespecting the Granth Sahib. Along with this, he was also abused.
- Investigation did not reveal alcohol consumption: According to police, the homeguard jawan was examined after the incident. It did not reveal that he was under the influence of alcohol. Police say that he was returning after meeting his sister.

Police searching for Nihang
DSP Dheeraj Kumar said, “The case of assault on the Home Guard jawan has come to the notice of the police. The Nihang who committed the assault is being searched for. Legal action will be taken against the accused after investigation.”
