
A Sub-Inspector of Birbhum’s Nalhati Police Station, identified as Ajmal Haque, has been arrested in Mumbai in connection with an alleged rape at a guest house in Salt Lake.
Woman alleges rape at Salt Lake
According to the complaint, a young woman approached Bidhannagar East Police Station in July and alleged that Haque had taken her to a guest house in Salt Lake’s CL Block, where he allegedly raped her. Following the complaint, Bidhannagar East Police registered a case and began investigating the allegations.

Accused officer reportedly becomes untraceable later
Police sources said Haque had previously secured bail in connection with the case. However, when officers from Bidhannagar East Police contacted Birbhum District Police regarding the case, Haque was reportedly found to be untraceable.

Accused brought Kolkata on transit remand
The investigation continued as police worked to locate the accused officer. Acting on a tip-off, Bidhannagar East Police eventually traced Haque to Mumbai and arrested him. He was subsequently produced before a Mumbai court.

Following the court proceedings, Haque was brought to Kolkata on transit remand. He is scheduled to be produced before the Bidhannagar Court today, where investigators are expected to seek his custody for further questioning.

Police are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, the complaint filed by the woman and the subsequent movements of the accused officer. The Bidhannagar East Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
