A high-intensity mock drill involving the National Security Guard (NSG) was conducted at a hotel in Dhamakhali under Sandeshkhali Police Station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, near the India-Bangladesh border.

The exercise simulated a terror and hostage situation, with armed terrorists shown as having abducted several tourists and held them captive inside a hotel.

After receiving information about the simulated hostage crisis, Sandeshkhali Police alerted the NSG. A specialised NSG team was subsequently deployed to the location to carry out the rescue operation.

Commandos launch swift hostage rescue operation

Using tactical equipment and advanced technology, NSG commandos entered the hotel premises and rescued the simulated hostages. The commandos also apprehended the simulated terrorists as part of the exercise.

Drill tests security forces preparedness

The mock drill was conducted to assess and demonstrate the preparedness, coordination, and rapid-response capabilities of security agencies in dealing with potential terror attacks and hostage situations.

The exercise also focused on coordination between local police and specialised counter-terror forces during a high-risk emergency, particularly in a strategically sensitive area close to the international border.
