After Operation Sindoor, India closed visas and borders, which halted the marriages of at least 150 Pakistani women. These women were engaged to men living in India and were waiting to go to their in-laws’ homes.

After much effort, the central government issued visas to these Sindhi women and their relatives to come to India for marriage. Brides and their relatives from Pakistan have arrived in India via Muscat, Dubai, Sri Lanka, and other countries.

Nagpur community leader Rajesh Jhambia said on Sunday, Finally, the long wait is over. Previously, for several years, visas and movement across the Wagah-Attari border were easy for women from Pakistan’s Sindh province who came to India for marriage.

Situation Changed After Operation Sindoor

Jhambia, who works for Sindhi migrants from Pakistan, told PTI that for such marriages, people from the Sindhi community previously came to India via the Wagah-Attari border in Punjab.

He said that after Operation Sindoor, the situation changed. The government rejected visa applications of all those planning to come to India via the Attari route.

Operation Sindoor was a military operation launched by India in 2025. It was initiated in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In this attack, 26 civilians were killed.

Shadani Darbar prepared a list of brides

Jhambia said that after this, he contacted Saint Yudhishthirlal Shadani in Raipur. Shadani is the Chief of Shadani Darbar, a prominent Hindu religious site located in Ghotki, Sindh province of Pakistan.

He said that Shadani Darbar started preparing a list of Pakistani women who were engaged to men living in India. This list included about 150 brides, whose marriages were to take place in Nagpur, Raipur, Jodhpur, Pune, and other cities of India.

The temple sent this list to the Ministry of Home Affairs and appealed for visas for the brides and their families to come to India. According to Jhambia, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved their arrival in India on the condition that they would travel by air.

150 Brides Came to India Since April

Jhambia stated that since April this year, 150 brides from Pakistan and their families have arrived in India for marriage via Dubai, Oman, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and other countries. These include 15 cases related to Nagpur.

He said that there are about 300 more such women in Pakistan who are currently waiting. An appeal has also been made to the Indian government to issue visas for these women.
