South actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and her husband Raj Nidimoru are set to welcome their first child. A traditional ‘Seemantham’ (baby shower) ceremony was held for Samantha as she prepares to become a mother for the first time.
During the ceremony, Samantha wore a flower garland and took part in prayers and an abhishekam as part of the Srividya tradition. Her husband, Raj Nidimoru, also joined her in the rituals.

‘Seemantham’ ceremony follows Srividya tradition
Samantha said the ceremony followed Tamil and Telugu traditions. Dressed in a light orange suit with a flower garland around her neck, she was seen sitting in an open space as the rituals took place.
Priests chant Vedic mantras during the ceremony
During the ceremony, priests sprinkled holy water on Samantha while chanting Vedic mantras and blessed her by placing their hands on her head. Samantha said she may not fully understand the meaning behind every ritual, but she has always respected the positive energy created by these chants and the traditions passed down through generations.

‘The mother is regarded as a goddess during the ritual’ Sharing a post on Instagram, Samantha wrote that during the ceremony, a priest who worships Sri Vidya explained the significance of every ritual. He said that the 94 manifestations of the goddess are honoured through the ‘Kala Avarana’ (Sri Kalpam) ritual.
As part of this ritual, the seven chakras of the pregnant woman are energised with holy water and mantras. Samantha said the most distinctive aspect of the ritual was that the expectant mother was seen as a goddess and sacred creator herself, who was about to give birth to a new life.
Her husband, Raj Nidimoru, was also seen taking part in the rituals alongside her during the puja.
Chanting while seated at the centre of the Shri Chakra Yantra Writing about the next stage of the puja, Samantha said that after the abhishek, the expectant mother is seated at the centre of the ‘Shri Chakra Yantra’. The yantra consists of nine coverings, which represent different stages of the spiritual journey.
During the recitation of the Devi Khadgamala, the names of the divine forces associated with the nine enclosures were chanted. According to Samantha, the process turns the mind inward and invokes blessings for the safety of both the unborn child and the mother.
Samantha and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru got married last year.
