Sonam Wangchuk has responded to Salman Khan’s comment asking him to end his hunger strike. Speaking to Prakhar Gupta, Wangchuk said Salman may have had his own reasons for making the statement and that he did not want to comment on them.
Salman had earlier backed students’ protest
On July 22, when Wangchuk’s hunger strike was nearing its final phase, Salman shared an old picture of himself from his student days and extended his support to the protesting students.
However, within 24 hours, Salman made another post urging Wangchuk to end his hunger strike. He wrote, “Sonam, it’s done, bro.”
Wangchuk says he respects Salman’s statement
Reacting to Salman’s post, Wangchuk said, “Everyone must have their compulsions. I don’t want to talk about this.”
He further said, “You have to look in every direction. He said something, and that itself is worthy of respect. I cannot say anything about his compulsions.”
Sonam Wangchuk had observed a hunger strike for a total of 26 days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Salman Khan had supported the students’ protest
On July 22, Salman Khan had expressed support for the students’ protest. Sharing his views on X, he said the movement had been peaceful initially and expressed sadness that it later turned violent.
He also expressed concern for the students and their families who were injured, while calling paper leaks a serious issue. Salman praised the students for coming together and seeking a better education system, and appreciated their parents for supporting them.

Salman further wrote, “I appreciate their stance. They have shown dedication to studies, honesty, and a willingness to work hard so that they can build their future and a better, educated India. This movement and protest have been conducted in the right way, and the students have kept it peaceful. This generation will make India proud. This matter is between the students and the education system. It should not be politically hijacked. The credit for this should go only to the students of the country.”
He also wrote, “I am sure the government will also give them full support and strengthen the education system. This will be a win-win situation for everyone. Hoping and praying for a positive decision. May God bless all those who want to be educated.”
The actor said, “Education should be the next trend and fashion. Every year it should become trendier and more fashionable, so that people from abroad come to India to study and India becomes a hub of education.”
A day later, Salman asked to end the protest
A day after supporting the student protest, Salman appealed to the protesters to end the agitation. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take action against those responsible for the paper leak.
Salman wrote on X, “Students are paramount in both matters of education and safety. Therefore, they do not need to worry their parents. The Honorable Prime Minister has tweeted, and I am sure he will take strict action against all those responsible for the paper leak.”
He had told the students, “So students, please go back to your parents and home.”
Salman also appealed to Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike. He wrote, “Sonam, it’s done, bro. Don’t stretch this further. If needed on any other day, save this sentiment for that, although I don’t think it will be necessary. Eat something. If you want, I will send food for you from home.”
