South 24 Parganas Ready For Census 2027 Self-Enumeration From August 1 With Large-Scale Awareness Drive

South 24 Parganas has completed all preparations for the first phase of Census 2027, with the Self Enumeration process set to begin from August 1 and continue till August 15, 2026, district officials announced on Friday.

The Self Enumeration phase will be followed by the House Listing Operation from August 16 to September 14, 2026, marking the completion of the first phase of the nationwide census exercise.

District deploys over 20,000 personnel

To facilitate the operation, the district has established 37 Charge Offices, including 29 blocks, seven municipalities, and one industrial township. A total of 14,399 House Listing Blocks have been created for the exercise.

The administration has deployed 17,222 Enumerators and 2,939 Supervisors for field operations. Additionally, 276 Field Trainers were trained by the District Master Trainers and the District Census Office, who subsequently trained all Enumerators and Supervisors. The training programme concluded on July 31.

Officials said an extensive awareness and facilitation campaign has been planned during the Self-Enumeration period. The district will set up Self Enumeration Demonstration Centres, Help Desks, and Facilitation Camps, while awareness drives through IEC campaigns, social media outreach, and awareness tableaux will also be conducted.

House listing phase begins mid-August

The administration will coordinate with Common Service Centres (CSCs), cyber cafés, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and local bodies to assist residents in completing the self-enumeration process.

Appealing to residents to participate actively, district officials said public cooperation is essential to ensure an accurate, inclusive and successful Census 2027. Citizens have been urged to complete their self-enumeration between August 1 and August 15.
