The two accused in the Twisha case, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh, were produced before the CBI court on Tuesday through video conferencing. Twisha’s counsel, Shubhang Dixit, said that after the hearing, the court extended their judicial custody till August 11.
Twisha’s father and brother were also present in court and witnessed the proceedings.
According to Dixit, the accused told the court that the CBI’s claim that they had not cooperated in providing their voice samples was incorrect. The defence also alleged that the conduct of the investigating agency officials during the collection of the voice samples was inappropriate and formally raised an objection before the court.
Court says, ‘Voice sample issue already raised during bail hearing’
Dixit said the court orally observed that the issue of voice samples and the arguments related to it had already been raised during the hearing of the accused’s bail applications.
Since the bail applications had already been decided, the court said the issue had no relevance during the present remand hearing. However, the court did not record any comment on the matter in its written order.
The court has extended the judicial custody (judicial remand) of Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh until August 11.
Defence also opposes extension of judicial custody
During the hearing, the defence also opposed extending the accused’s judicial custody.
According to Dixit, the defence argued that the CBI’s application seeking an extension of custody did not mention any new grounds. The defence also asked the agency how many witnesses had been questioned so far.
The CBI opposed the defence’s request, stating that the investigation was still underway. The agency told the court that details about how many witnesses had been questioned or whose statements had been recorded could not be disclosed at this stage.
The CBI said revealing such details could affect the investigation and therefore declined to provide further information.
Court accepts CBI plea, extends custody till August 11
Dixit said the regular magistrate was on leave, so the matter was heard by the duty magistrate.
After considering the facts of the case, the court accepted the application filed by the CBI and ordered that the judicial custody of both accused be extended till August 11.
Twisha died on May 12
Twisha Sharma was found dead at her in-laws’ house in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on the night of May 12, 2026.
Her in-laws had described the death as suicide, while her parental family alleged that she had been murdered.
After questions were raised over the initial post-mortem examination, the High Court directed that a fresh post-mortem be conducted at Delhi’s AIIMS.
The CBI is now taking its investigation forward on the basis of that report.
