Ujjain police have launched a special drive to make the area around the world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple safer and ensure the security of devotees. As part of the campaign, police are preparing a digital database of people associated with hotels, lodges, guesthouses, flower and prasad stalls, tilak vendors and other establishments operating around the temple.
The initiative aims to identify people with criminal backgrounds and prevent suspicious or criminal activities in the Mahakal temple area.
Aadhaar, mobile numbers and other details being verified
Mahakal police station in-charge Gagan Badal said the information is being collected through the Police i-App on the directions of the Superintendent of Police.
Police teams are verifying the Aadhaar cards, mobile numbers, photographs, names, addresses and other required documents of the concerned individuals before entering the details digitally.
So far, data of around 300 to 350 people has been verified and uploaded to the app. The exercise has been underway continuously for nearly a month.
Criminal records to be checked after verification
Police officials said the objective is not merely to create a database but also to ensure that no person with a criminal background remains active in the Mahakal area.
After verification, the criminal records of the individuals will also be checked. If a person is found to have serious criminal cases registered against them or their activities are found to be suspicious, police will take action as per the law.
If required, the police may also initiate proceedings to remove such individuals from the Mahakal temple area.
Digital database to help in quick action
Police officials said the main objective of the campaign is to provide devotees with a safe and respectful environment.
The digital database will also help police quickly identify individuals in case of complaints related to cheating, misbehaviour or disputes, enabling prompt action against those involved.
