India’s GST collection rose by 15.4% year-on-year to ₹2.11 lakh crore in July 2026, the latest government figures released today show. It was ₹1.83 lakh crore in the same period last year.
Collection status during April-July
In the first quarter of 2026 (April-July ), GST collection increased by 10.1% to ₹8.4 lakh crore, up from ₹7.6 lakh crore in the same period last year.

Differences in state figures
Maharashtra’s GST revenue increased by 13% to ₹32,210 crore. Gujarat saw a 19% increase to ₹12,923 crore; Karnataka saw a 12% increase to ₹13,854 crore; Telangana saw a 19% increase to ₹5,819 crore; and Uttar Pradesh collected ₹9,651 crore, a 15% increase.
Tamil Nadu’s GST revenue decreased by 1%, Andhra Pradesh’s by 5%, and Madhya Pradesh’s by 10%. Sikkim recorded a decline of 59%, Himachal Pradesh 22%, and Uttarakhand 18%. The department clarified that these figures are provisional and may see minor changes in final data.
GST Collection Shows the Health of the Economy
GST collection indicates how healthy the country’s economy is. If the collection is high, it means that people are shopping vigorously, production in factories is increasing, and people are paying taxes honestly.
GST was Implemented in 2017
The government implemented GST across the country on July 1, 2017. After this, 17 taxes and 13 cesses of the central and state governments were abolished.
GST is Divided into Four Parts:
- CGST (Central GST): Collected by the Central Government.
- SGST (State GST): Collected by State Governments.
- IGST (Integrated GST): Applicable on inter-state transactions and imports, divided between the Central and State Governments.
- Cess: An additional levy imposed on specific goods (e.g., luxury items, tobacco) to raise funds for specific purposes.
