The Detective Department (DD) of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate on Monday busted an illegal manufacturing unit operating from a rented house in the Ghuni area under Eco Park Police Station and seized a large quantity of counterfeit FMCG products bearing the names of leading brands.
Fake branded products recovered during operation
The raid was conducted at around 2:45 pm at a residential premises in Ghuni, Shulipara, near Nababalak Sangha, in North 24 Parganas. Police said the house had been rented by Ajay Ghosh, son of Anjan Ghosh.
During the operation, officers recovered counterfeit products carrying the trademarks of popular brands, including Nivea, Bio-Cure, Nycil, Himalaya, All Out, and Clean & Clear.
Manufacturing materials seized from rented premises
Police also seized manufacturing and packaging materials, including a weighing machine, labelling sheets, loose powders, mosquito repellent refill sticks, packaging equipment, and other raw materials allegedly used to manufacture and package the fake products.
Loose raw materials used illegally
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused were allegedly producing counterfeit goods using loose raw materials before packaging them with forged labels of reputed FMCG companies to pass them off as genuine products in the market.
Investigation continues to identify key accused
Investigators are now trying to trace the source of the raw materials, identify others involved in the manufacturing and distribution network, and determine the scale of the counterfeit operation. Further investigation is underway.
