Rahul Gandhi Plea: Supreme Court Hearing on Allahabad High Court Order

The Supreme Court will hear Rahul Gandhi’s petition challenging the Allahabad High Court’s order on Monday.

The High Court had directed the CBI and ED to investigate allegations of disproportionate assets against Rahul. The petition will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana.

High Court had sought a new affidavit from CBI

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI’s response on July 20. The court had directed a senior officer of the agency to file a new affidavit stating the current status of the investigation.

The High Court had stated that the affidavit previously filed by the CBI was not in accordance with its old order. The court had ordered the Joint Director of the concerned zone at the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Headquarters in New Delhi to personally file a new affidavit before the next hearing.

BJP worker Vignesh Shishir filed the petition

BJP worker Vignesh Shishir from Karnataka had filed a petition in the High Court, accusing Rahul Gandhi of possessing assets disproportionate to his income. He had demanded an investigation by the CBI and ED. Following this, the court ordered verification of the allegations. In this case, the CBI has also questioned Vignesh Shishir.

The case was first heard in court on May 6

The case was first heard in court on May 6. Agencies had sought time from the court to file their replies. Then, the court heard the case again after 6 days. The court heard the arguments of CBI and ED. Then, in its order, it said – if the petitioner’s complaint has been received, then the allegations made therein should be verified according to law.
