India star Neeraj Chopra is in action in the men’s javelin throw event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 now. He is facing off against a tough set of competitors that includes Olympic champion and Pakistan champion Arshad Nadeem.
Two other Indians- Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh are also in action. The top 12 from the qualification round qualify for the final.
India’s medal tally at CWG 2026
India’s medal rush at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continued with Dilip Mahadu Gavit, Mohammed Basil and Murali Sreeshankar achieving podium finishes in para-athletics and athletics, respectively. Gavit and Basil secured a 1-2 finish for India in the men’s para 100m T47 event with gold and silver medals.
Meanwhile, Murali Sreeshankar bagged a silver medal in the men’s long jump event. His spectacular leap of 8.09m earned him a second consecutive silver medal. India’s medal tally has now swollen to 15.
Dilip Gavit, Mohammed Basil bag double podium finish
Dilip registered a magnificent timing of 10.71 seconds to win the gold medal in the men’s para 100m T47 event. He also set a Games record with that timing. His gold medal is India’s third in this edition of the Commonwealth Games and second in para athletics.
His compatriot Basil clocked 10.83 seconds and finished just behind him on the podium. England’s Kevin Santos bagged the bronze with 10.85 seconds.
Tragedy struck Dilip when he was five or six years old, as he fell from a tree, which resulted in injury to his right arm. Eventually, the arm had to be amputated due to an infection. However, he took to running and his talent caught the eye of his coach, Vaijnath Kale. He won a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games.
Basil was born with a congenital limb deficiency, but that did not stop him from pursuing para athletics. Under coach Seenivasan, he is currently training at the LNCPE–SAI, Thiruvananthapuram.
Murali Sreeshankar wins second straight CWG silver
Sreeshankar was one of India’s medal prospects going into the Commonwealth Games and he did not disappoint at all. The 27-year-old came up with an effort of 8.09m, which won him the silver. Tajay Gayle from Jamaica won the gold medal, registering an 8.15m jump, while the bronze medal went to Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie (8.08m).
Sreeshankar’s compatriot Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth with a jump of 7.97m.
Apart from this, Indian players will compete in athletics, weightlifting, track cycling and lawn bowls. In athletics, Parul Chaudhary and Tajinderpal Singh Toor will compete in medal events.
Neeraj is the only Indian to throw 90 metres
Neeraj Chopra threw 90.23 meters in the 2025 Doha Diamond League. This is his best performance, and with this, he set a national record. He also became the first Indian javelin thrower to cross 90 meters.
Neeraj clinched gold in Tokyo Olympics
Neeraj has won medals for India in almost every major tournament. He won gold at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with an 87.58-meter throw. After that, he won gold at the World Athletics Championships 2023, gold at the Asian Games 2023, and a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
A total of 17 gold medal events will be held throughout the day. These include 7 track cycling and para track cycling, 7 athletics and para athletics, and 3 weightlifting gold medal events.

In Athletics, at 11:30 PM, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill will challenge for a medal in the Men’s Shot Put Final. After that, at 1:10 AM, Seema Punia and Nidhi Rani will play in the Women’s Discus Throw Final. Then, at 1:48 AM, Parul Chaudhary will compete for a medal in the Women’s 5000m Final.
2 medals possible in weightlifting
In Weightlifting, at 6:30 PM, Martina Devi Maibam will compete in the Women’s 86+ kg Final. After that, at 11:00 PM, Lovepreet Singh will compete for gold in the Men’s 110+ kg Final.
India’s chance for final qualification in Track Cycling
In track cycling, the Indian team will play the men’s 4000m team pursuit qualifying at 3:26 PM. If they qualify, the team will compete for a medal in the final at 9:58 PM.
Two matches in Lawn Bowls
In Lawn Bowls, at 7:30 PM, the Indian pair of Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh will face Botswana in the men’s pairs sectional play. After this, at 8:55 PM, Nayanmoni Saikia will face Emma Firyana Saroji of Malaysia in the women’s singles sectional play.

Neeraj Chopra is in and he registers a throw of 76.28m, which is way below the qualification mark. But one thing is important to know for our readers- the wind at the venue is playing a role in these attempts, with Neeraj’s javelin swerving in the air.
Both the Indians here have registered underwhelming efforts here, all below 80m. A couple of more efforts remain for them to go past 84m.

Few days ago, Tejaswin sustained an injury in the men’s high jump event and had to withdraw. But he is back today, a big boost to India’s medal hopes. He clocked 10.96 seconds to finish seventh overall in the event, but there are still 4 more events to go.

Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a massive throw of 90.18m. Nadeem is also the Olympic champion, having had a throw of 92.97m. Neeraj had finished second in Paris 2 years ago, with a throw of 89.45m.
