The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the India men’s cricket team’s fielding coach.
He will be replacing T Dilip as the board looks to lift fielding standards before the Sri Lanka tests. Meanwhile, Ryan ten Doeschate has also stepped down from his role with the conclusion of his tenure.
“Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate’s two-year contract with the Indian men’s team ended on June 10. Fielding coach T Dilip, who was given a one-year extension after his original term ended, also had his contract ending on June 8,” said BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia.
The former first-class cricketer, Ghosh, will take charge from T Dilip, whose tenure concluded with the recent white-ball tour of the United Kingdom.
The BCCI has decided to bring fresh energy following a review of the team’s fielding performances, which had come under criticism in recent months.
Subhadeep Ghosh has been part of the national coaching setup in 2020, working with the India women’s team, India U19 side during their World Cup campaign in South Africa and India men’s team at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
With experience spanning domestic junior, women’s and international cricket, Ghosh is expected to play a key role in strengthening the fielding standards of the senior men’s team.
Subhadeep Ghosh, the former domestic player has played 17 matches each in First-class and List A cricket, scoring 316 and 307 runs respectively. He made his debut in both formats in 1994-95.
Playing his last first-class game in 2004, he played his last List A game in 2005. He ended his fielding coaching and made a name for himself, having played key roles across several Indian national teams.
He has been in the system for the last six to seven years, since the time of Rahul Dravid at the National Cricket Academy.
In the Indian Premier League, Subhadeep Ghosh had a successful campaign with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, where they secured their second title.
