The first picture showing the stitches on the arm of former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has emerged following the August 13 attack.
His wife and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal displayed the picture on a tablet and said, “More than 150 stitches had been required.”
Kirpan passed through hand during attack
Harsimrat said, “The attacker aimed a one-and-a-half-foot kirpan at Sukhbir Badal’s chest, but his hand came in front and the weapon passed through it.”
She has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking that the investigation be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Attacker claims he received ‘orders’ during ardas
The accused, Nihang Jaspal Singh, has claimed that he received instructions from Guru Sahib to carry out the attack.
According to his statement, he was offering ardas at a gurdwara in Nanded when he received the alleged instruction. He said he attacked Sukhbir Badal when he later came in front of him. The attack on Sukhbir Badal took place on August 13.

Harsimrat narrated this story during the rally
- Attack on Sukhbir in front of children: MP Harsimrat Kaur became emotional during a rally in Isru, Ludhiana on August 15. She said, “Sukhbir Badal was attacked in front of me and the children. The attacker attacked when he was returning after paying obeisance at the Gurdwara Sahib. He attacked under the guise of religious attire. I do not consider him a Sikh.”
- Dagger went through the hand: Harsimrat said, “Nihang Jaspal Singh made the first attack on Sukhbir Badal. He struck a one-and-a-half-foot kirpan at Sukhbir Badal’s chest, but Sukhbir Badal put his hand forward. The kirpan went right through his hand.” She added, “When he tried to strike a second time, the inspector deployed for security caught him and his hand was also cut.”
- Sukhbir in hospital, I was sent to rally: Harsimrat said, “This attack was carried out in a planned manner. He was attacked at a place where there is no hospital nearby. He has received one and a half hundred stitches on his hand.” She added, “Sukhbir Badal is admitted in the hospital and he has sent me to participate in this rally. The entire family is in shock due to this incident.”

What did the Nihang tell in police interrogation, know in 4 points…
- Waheguru’s Command: During police interrogation, Nihang Jaspal Singh claimed that on the day of the incident, when he was performing Ardas at the Gurdwara Sahib, he received a command from Waheguru through his inner conscience. He took this step only after receiving Waheguru’s command.
- Anger over Punjab’s Situation and Drug Abuse: He told police officers during interrogation that he was mentally very distressed and enraged by the continuously deteriorating situation in Punjab and the rapidly increasing drug abuse among youth. He holds Sukhbir Badal responsible for this.
- Attack Not Done Under Anyone’s Instigation or Pressure: The Nihang stated that he did not carry out this attack under the instigation of any other person, external pressure, or lure of money. He has no links with anyone.
- Sudden Impulsive Action: The accused stated that as soon as he saw Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Gurdwara Sahib, he ‘suddenly became enraged’ and lunged at him with his knife. In the preliminary interrogation, Jaspal Singh gave a statement that he carried out this incident completely alone and there was no involvement of any external conspirator.

Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “Every pore of my body is indebted to Dashmesh Pita Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, who has placed his blessed hand on my head in every difficult test of life.”
He added, “About a year ago, there was also a life-threatening attack on me at the sacred place of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, and even then Guru Maharaj granted him the gift of life.”
