Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP Over Student Violence & Abuse

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that the courage of India’s youth, who are standing firmly against what he called government violence, deserves praise.

He also said female students who faced misbehaviour, abuse and violence from BJP members should be praised for standing their ground.

Rahul Gandhi also shared a video on social media of his conversation with the students. They had protested last month, demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the paper leak issue.

The conversation between Rahul and the students took place on 5 August, but he shared the video on Sunday.

Rahul earlier held a press conference with Jantar Mantar protesters

On 5 August, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference with Jantar Mantar protesters at 10 Janpath in Delhi. He said students were attacked with batons and pellet guns during the Cockroach Party protest on 20 July.

Rahul brought four student protesters, including both male and female students, before the media. One female student said, “We were called anti-national for saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai. We were walking peacefully when a police officer hit us on the upper part of our body.”

CJP protest continued at Jantar Mantar for 36 days

The CJP held a continuous protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar from 20 June to 25 July, lasting 36 days. Thousands of students, parents and young people joined the protest. Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk also took part and went on hunger strike.

On 20 July, the CJP held a march towards Parliament, during which police used batons against the students. On 25 July, the CJP announced the end of its protest after the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned.
