Vinay Gupta, a 31-year-old software engineer, was allegedly beaten up by his wife’s family in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar. He died on Friday while being taken to a hospital.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the case, including Rekha’s wife. Investigation revealed that Rekha had turned off the CCTV camera inside the house before the incident.

Vinay, a resident of Laxmi Park, was a software engineer at a multinational company in Noida. He married Rekha, 31, about three and a half years ago. They have four-month-old twins.

Mother said, had gone to get water when the attack happened

Vinay’s father Premchand lives in the same house with his wife Renu Gupta. Premchand said that Rekha’s relatives had said they had come to talk to his son.

He said, “I had gone inside to get water. When I came out, they were beating my son.”

Vinay’s mother said, “My husband kept telling them repeatedly not to beat our son and to talk peacefully, but they didn’t listen at all. They pushed Vinay to the floor and beat him badly. They pushed me too.”

According to the mother, the attackers had pinned Vinay to the ground and hit him in the stomach. She said, “I had gone to give them a glass of water. They had pinned my son down. They threw him on the cot and grabbed his neck. They kicked and punched him in the stomach.”

The mother said that she had gone outside to call the neighbors. By the time she returned, the attackers had beaten Vinay. She said, “They had finished off my son.”

Vinay was taken to the hospital, but he died on the way. The mother said, “He was my only child.”

Dispute started over blisters appearing on son’s body

According to the police, on Friday morning Vinay had asked Rekha to apply medicine to her son. The child had developed blisters on his body.

A senior police officer said, “When Rekha refused, an argument broke out between the two. Shortly after this, Rekha left the house and called her two brothers and sister-in-law.”

Police said that in this case, Rekha, Raju, Vedprakash and Poonam have been arrested. A case has been registered at Nihal Vihar Police Station under Section 103(1) murder and Section 3(5) act done with common intention of several people of the Indian Justice Code.
