India’s trade with key BRICS partners has gathered pace this financial year. Exports to China, South Africa, Brazil and Russia rose 34% year-on-year to $19.9 billion (around ₹1.89 lakh crore) during April-August 2026-27, underlining the growing role of the BRICS bloc in supporting India’s export growth.
According to Commerce Ministry data, shipments to these four major BRICS economies increased from $14.9 billion in April-August 2025-26 to $19.9 billion in the same period of 2026-27.
Among them, China remained the biggest destination, with Indian exports jumping 39% to $9.6 billion (around ₹91,200 crore) in the first five months of the current financial year, making it the largest contributor to the overall growth in BRICS-bound exports. READ MORE
BMW falls 75 feet from flyover, killing 3, injuring 1
A speeding BMW plunged off a flyover on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early on Sunday, killing three people and leaving another critically injured. The accident took place around 5:20 am when the car was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali.
Police said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed. The black BMW then fell from the flyover and was severely damaged in the crash. Initial reports had suggested that four people had been run over, but police later clarified that the victims were occupants of the car. READ MORE
Elavenil wins 2 silver medals in shooting at Asian Games
India opened its campaign at the 20th Asian Games with two silver medals, narrowly missing out on a gold on the very first day of competition. Shooter Elavenil Valarivan finished second in the women’s 10m air rifle event with 252.4 points, just 0.6 points behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi, who claimed gold with 253.0 points.
India also secured silver in the team event, finishing with 1898.0 points. There was more good news for India as Suchika Tariyal assured herself of a medal in mixed martial arts after reaching the under-60kg traditional category semi-finals, defeating Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Balgama 2-0.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s hockey team began in dominant fashion, thrashing Uzbekistan 19-0. In cricket, India stormed into the women’s final with a 114-run win over Bangladesh in the semi-final. India will now face Sri Lanka in the gold-medal clash on 22 September. READ MORE
Imran Khan’s sister Aleema arrested in Lahore
Pakistan’s political tensions have escalated again, with Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, arrested from her home in Lahore on Sunday.
The arrest comes just days before Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans a major protest on 27 September demanding Imran Khan’s release. The former premier has been in jail since August 2023, and PTI has been running a sustained campaign calling for his freedom.

3. The Supreme Court will hear a plea challenging voter-name deletions under Delhi’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) today. The petitioner has alleged that details of 33 lakh notices and the grounds for deletion among 47 lakh names have not been disclosed.
4. A special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, will hear the defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today over his alleged objectionable remarks about then Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Bengaluru in 2018.
5. The YSRCP will hold a protest outside the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh office in Vijayawada at 10 am today, demanding a probe into alleged irregularities in DSC recruitment and justice for deserving candidates.
