A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl who is reportedly a friend of his daughter in Hoogly’s Baidyabati. Police have registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Minor picked up from tuition with daughter
According to police and local sources, the minor girl had recently been picked up from tuition along with the accused’s daughter. After dropping his daughter home, the accused allegedly went to drop the girl at her residence.

Accused entered girl’s empty home
However, no one was reportedly present at the girl’s house at the time. Police and local sources alleged that the accused entered the house and touched the minor inappropriately before attempting to sexually harass her.
The girl allegedly managed to free herself and escape from the house. She raised an alarm, following which local residents rushed to the spot. The accused allegedly fled after hearing the commotion.
Locals allegedly assault accused after incident
Soon after, local residents reportedly went to the accused’s house and assaulted him. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took the accused into custody.
A case has been registered against the accused under the POCSO Act at Sreerampore Women Police Station. Police are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

MLA condemns incident, demands strict punishment
Champdani MLA Dilip Singh condemned the alleged incident and said that legal action would be taken against anyone found involved. He said that if the accused is found guilty, he should face strict punishment under the law.
Singh also said that everyone is equal before the law and that no one should be given protection or patronage. The allegations against the accused are subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
