Madhya Pradesh has received 16.3 inches of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 18% below normal, leading to drought-like conditions in the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely in some northern districts over the next three days.
Chhattisgarh is also expected to witness rain for the next three days. The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for parts of north Chhattisgarh. However, rainfall activity and intensity are likely to decrease across the state from August 8.
Monsoon showers continue across Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, heavy rain lashed over 20 cities, including Lucknow, Saharanpur and Meerut. Schools up to Class 8 have been closed in Kaushambi and Prayagraj on Friday due to continuous rainfall. In Farrukhabad, the Ganga has reached close to the danger mark, with floodwater entering 33 villages and 40 government schools.
The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for nine districts of Bihar, including Patna, and a yellow alert for rain in 26 districts. Winds of up to 40 kmph are expected, and a warning has also been issued for lightning.
