Rahul Gandhi Statement on PM Modi; Students Distress & History Row

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the country’s students are in deep pain. They do not need an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi; instead, they want the Prime Minister to apologise for the actions of his government.

Speaking at the launch of a book by former MP Vaiko, Rahul Gandhi said students are on the streets because the RSS is trying to rewrite the country’s history. He added that India will not tolerate its history being crushed.

‘Students have no jobs, want fairness in exams’

Rahul Gandhi said the country is going through a strange phase where students are on the streets in deep distress. They do not have jobs and are demanding fairness in examinations and a better education system.

“On the other hand, the Prime Minister is apologising to them,” Rahul said, adding that he does not know where the Prime Minister gets the idea that he can forgive students or the future of India.

Every state should be treated fairly 1. Rahul Gandhi claimed that there is a dangerous ideology behind the PM and the RSS. 2. He said some ignorant people fail to understand Tamil, Marathi, and Bengali people and dismiss their history and imagination as irrelevant. 3. He said the Constitution clearly states that India, that is Bharat, is a Union of States, and that the states represent the people of India.

Accuses RSS of trying to rewrite history

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister and the RSS are driven by a dangerous idea that the country is not an expression of its many people. He said the Constitution clearly states that “India, that is Bharat, is a Union of States,” and that the states represent the people of India.

He said every state has equal rights and deserves fair treatment.

‘India will not tolerate its history being crushed’

Rahul Gandhi said some ignorant people do not understand the histories and cultures of Tamils, Marathis and Bengalis, and claim that none of their histories or traditions matter. According to them, only the version of history accepted by the RSS is important. That, he said, is why this fight is significant and why students are protesting on the streets.

Leaders present at the event

Those present at the book launch included Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Sagarika Ghose, Congress leaders P. Chidambaram and Manickam Tagore. Also in attendance were former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby, CPI General Secretary D. Raja, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha, RSP leader N. K. Premachandran and NCP-SP leader Supriya Sule.
