More than 15 districts in Madhya Pradesh recorded rainfall on Wednesday, ranging from light showers to heavy downpours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), two cyclonic circulations are active over the northern part of the state, increasing the likelihood of heavy rain in several districts.
Rain continued across Uttar Pradesh, with heavy showers reported in more than 20 cities, including Prayagraj, Kanpur, and Noida, on Wednesday. The Ganga River is flowing close to the danger mark in Bijnor and Farrukhabad, while more than 45 villages have been affected by floods.
In Jharkhand, 20 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes over the past 24 hours amid ongoing rainfall. Giridih reported the highest toll, with 11 deaths. The weather department has issued a rain alert for different districts until August 8.
Heavy rainfall also continued across parts of Kerala on Wednesday, leading to flood-like conditions in the Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts. Around 150 people have been shifted to relief camps. The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for five districts on Thursday.
In Bihar, flood-like conditions have developed in Araria due to heavy rainfall in Nepal’s Terai region. Low-lying areas have been inundated, and residents are being shifted to safer locations. The weather department has issued a rain alert for the entire state on Thursday as well.
