Due to the negligence of the government system, a 9th-grade student died in Surat, Gujarat. On Tuesday, 14-year-old Abdul Rahman was electrocuted by an electrical pipe on the school roof.
The principal took him to the civil hospital in his car, where doctors declared him dead. The incident took place at Suman Government School, located in the Mandarwaja area of Surat.
The school administration stated that children from three schools were eating midday meals in the ground, so the children were taken to the school roof for PT. There was current in the electrical pipe on the roof, which became the cause of Abdul’s death. PT teacher Sheikh Bahauddin Azimuddin has been dismissed for negligence.

A student said that Abdul’s foot slipped while doing PT. He directly hit the electric pipe. He writhed for a minute and became unconscious. A teacher used a stick to move the live wire of the pipe away from him. After this, the teacher gave him CPR.
The school principal took him to a nearby private hospital in his car, but by then Abdul had died. Doctors said that there were several marks of electric shock and injuries on Abdul’s body.
Abdul’s father, Salim Sheikh, lives in Umarwada Low-Cost Colony and supports his entire family, including 3 children, by driving an auto-rickshaw.

Due to the gross negligence and lax attitude of the Electric Department of Udhna Zone of Surat Municipal Corporation, a light pole was installed inside the boundary wall of the school’s roof. The live electric wire was left exposed on the terrace.
After the accident, a team of technicians and wiremen from the Electric Department of Udhna Zone reached the spot. When a technician tried to check the electric pole with his hand, he also received a shock.
Upon investigation, it was found that the electric wire inside the pipe was exposed, due to which current was flowing throughout the pipe. This means that during monsoon, when the roof filled with water, current must have been spreading across the entire roof.

The family members expressed strong anger in the Civil Hospital premises and demanded strict action against the culprits. Dharmesh Patel, the in-charge administrative officer of Suman School, said that he is surprised how this accident happened when the power was off. An investigation has been ordered.
After the accident, PT teacher Sheikh Bahauddin Azimuddin, who was working since June 2025, was removed from service. The incident will be investigated to find out whether the responsibility was solely of the teacher or if there was any lapse in the school’s security system and at the administrative level.
